AI got a desk job

OpenAI's Codex now serves 1 million knowledge workers weekly, outpacing developer growth threefold. This shift indicates AI is becoming essential across industries, not just for tech.

AI clocked in. OpenAI’s white-collar Codex added six job-specific plugins, from sales to investment banking, and knowledge workers are now roughly 20% of its 5 million weekly users — growing 3x faster than developers. Meanwhile Lovable’s Google Cloud deal pushes 1 million new projects a week, with HubSpot and Uber among its users and Gemini models and Wiz security built in. The developer niche just became everyone’s job.

The capital is following the work. DeepSeek’s first outside round lines up roughly $7 billion at a $52-59 billion valuation, with Tencent in for $1.4 billion and founder Liang Wenfeng committing $2.8 billion to hold control. The same week, Cyera’s $300M raise doubled its valuation to $12 billion in five months, pushing its total raised past $1.6 billion. Money is flooding the model layer and the data-security layer at once.

The rules are catching up too. The UK’s publisher opt-out, which the CMA calls a world first, gives Google nine months to let publishers exclude content from AI Overviews and AI Mode. On the defensive side, Android fake-call detection flags unverified callers against a fraud problem the FTC ties to $2.95 billion in imposter-scam losses and INTERPOL to over $400 billion worldwide. The downstream costs are finally getting addressed.
