The money is still moving. Mistral’s €3B Series D values the company above €21B, three years after launch; it now operates across 20 countries and says it supports 125+ enterprises. But an enterprise AI budget survey finds a less permanent customer base: 74% of 150 IT leaders plan to spend more over 12 months, yet fewer than half of pilots reach production. Capital remains abundant; recurring adoption is still the scarcer asset.
Compute is getting more distributed while software budgets get more conditional. NVIDIA’s PAIR router connects local systems for free; a 3-device cluster finished a 5-subagent workload in 8 minutes 48 seconds versus 18 minutes on one RTX Spark laptop. NVIDIA also reports up to 1.9x llama.cpp throughput, while Madrona says 77% of enterprises reassess AI vendors every 6 months or continuously. Cheaper inference can lower the trial cost, but it cannot turn a trial into a contract.
The scale gap is now visible at both ends. Mistral has €3B to expand frontier research, infrastructure, and commercial reach across 20 countries; NVIDIA coordinated 3 machines for a 5-subagent job; and 77% of enterprise buyers may revisit vendors within 6 months. Even the $4.25 trillion technology-spending forecast for 2026 sits beside a conversion rate below half. The industry is getting better at financing supply and measuring speed than proving which deployments customers will keep.
