OpenAI fired back. OpenAI’s Daybreak launch on May 11 puts three GPT-5.5 variants into the cybersecurity stack, with Cloudflare, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Oracle, and Akamai as launch partners. Anthropic’s Project Glasswing already counts Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, and Claude Mythos flagged 271 Firefox vulnerabilities for Mozilla. Same day, OpenAI also stood up a $4 billion Deployment Company at a $14B valuation, led by TPG, and absorbed Tomoro for 150 forward-deployed engineers. The cyber AI race just stopped being quiet.
The reason OpenAI is moving fast: Anthropic is the curve everyone is chasing. A SemiAnalysis report pegs Anthropic’s $44B ARR as of May 2026, up from roughly $9 billion at year-end 2025 — a 5x lift in months. Gross margins also moved from 38% to over 70% in the same window. Anthropic has not confirmed the dollar figures, and SemiAnalysis flags them as estimates. Either way, the comparable everyone benchmarks against just moved by an order of magnitude.
The capex chase has left atmosphere. Cowboy Space’s $275M round closed May 11 at a $2 billion post-money valuation, led by Index Ventures with Breakthrough Energy Ventures, IVP, and SAIC. Each planned satellite weighs 20,000-25,000 kg, draws 1 MW, and carries around 800 onboard GPUs. The first ‘Galactic Brain’ node is targeted for early 2027 on NVIDIA Space-1 Vera Rubin modules, with a proprietary rocket carrying a one-megawatt data center by end of 2028. Founder Baiju Bhatt is the Robinhood co-founder. Compute is becoming an orbital asset class.
