The compute bills just cleared. Anthropic committed $200 billion over five years to Google for TPU capacity and cloud, per The Information’s May 5 report. The deal secures 3.5 gigawatts via Google’s Broadcom alliance starting 2027 and represents more than 40% of Google’s disclosed revenue backlog. Anthropic’s annualized revenue hit $30 billion this year, up from $9B at end-2025. Alphabet shares ticked up ~2% in extended trading. The largest cloud commitment ever signed by a model lab just repriced how AI capex gets booked.
The chip beneficiary is already getting paid. AMD posted Q1 revenue of $10.25 billion, up 38% YoY, with data-center revenue jumping 57% to $5.8 billion and free cash flow tripling to $2.57 billion. Q2 guidance came in at $11.2 billion against a $10.5 billion consensus. The Helios rack-scale system, AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s $3M+ Grace Blackwell racks, ships later this year with OpenAI and Meta as named customers. Shares jumped ~16% after-hours. Wall Street is finally pricing AMD as a credible inference challenger.
The endpoint hits every desk today. ChatGPT for Excel and Google Sheets exits beta and goes generally available globally May 6, after the Excel beta opened in March and the Sheets beta on April 22. It lives as a sidebar across Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, Edu and K-12 plans, builds entire multi-tab workbooks from a single prompt, and handles formulas and references end-to-end. The compute Anthropic and AMD just spent billions to secure now routes straight into the world’s two most-used spreadsheet apps.
