Amazon cut 16K more jobs. Only 23% scaled.

Amazon cuts 16,000 jobs amid $21.2 billion profits and plans $100 billion for AI by 2025, outpacing competitors.

Big Tech is restructuring for AI. Everyone else is still piloting. Amazon announced 16,000 more layoffs today—bringing the total to 30,000 corporate jobs cut in three months—while posting $21.2 billion in quarterly profits and planning $100 billion in AI-related capex for 2025. CEO Andy Jassy put it bluntly: “Billions of AI agents are coming, and coming fast.” We wrote the full analysis—and the data underneath is striking: 88% of enterprises claim AI adoption, but only 23% are scaling agentic AI. Only 39% report profitability impact. Amazon is executing what most companies haven’t figured out how to pilot.

Meanwhile, the regulatory pressure on AI platforms is coming from every direction. Yesterday the EU opened two DMA specification proceedings against Google, demanding that Android open system-level AI access to Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok—same access Gemini gets. Six-month clock. Up to $35 billion in fines. And court documents from New Mexico revealed that Zuckerberg personally overruled safety staff warnings about AI chatbots capable of sexual conversations with minors. Meta has since halted teen access globally. The governance gap is widening faster than platforms can self-regulate.

And the infrastructure buildout continues regardless. China just approved its first batch of NVIDIA H200 chips—several hundred thousand units for ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent—following Jensen Huang’s visit last week. The H200 is NVIDIA’s second most powerful AI GPU, previously restricted. The geopolitical calculus is shifting. Everybody is betting heavy on AI infrastructure, even as the questions about who benefits and who gets displaced remain wide open.
